COLLEEN HAYWARD / KENSUKE YAMADA 'DWELL' October 5 - November 11, 2006 Featuring recent large oil on canvas and encaustics by Colleen Hayward and ceramic sculpture by Kensuke Yamada. Seattle artist Colleen Hayward's characteristic work has wide brush strokes, applied in thin layer upon layer in both horizontal and vertical planes. The canvases become a weaving in oil, contemplative and lyrical. Her stellar encaustic work is dream-like, a tension exists between the floating images juxtaposed against geometric lines. Kensuke Yamada, a native of Japan and now in the MFA program at the University of Montana, is on his way to becoming a well-known sculptor. His figurative work has character, at first glance innocent, yet one can see something deeper, which gives it an edge and human-ness. Watch for his next show, coming up in October 2007. |
