ERICA HARRIS / KENSUKE YAMADA

July 12 - August 18, 2007

Brooklyn artist Erica Harris’s work is influenced by a long trip

to Southeast Asia and from years of teaching art to school children

in El Salvador. Her work incorporates everyday experiences and objects that

are often taken for granted here but in war-torn countries can serve as symbols

of safety, shelter or peace. Widely exhibited on the East Coast, this is Harris’s

first exhibition in the Pacific Northwest.

Japanese artist Kensuke Yamada’s ceramic sculpture resonates

a child-like innocence, with an undercurrent of dark humor. The

figurative sculptures are quietly cool with simple gestures and Yamada’s

trademark of patterned clothing. Kensuke is currently working on his MFA

degree at the University of Montana.
