KENSUKE YAMADA 'I AND LOVE AND YOU'' May 20 - June 26, 2010 The Opening Reception is Thursday, May 20, 6-8 pm Artist Talk on Saturday, May 22nd, 1 pm Catherine Person Gallery is pleased to present recent figurative work by ceramic sculptor Kensuke Yamada. I and Love and You is a thematic show that delves into relationships with his distinctive rough-textured work. Yamada moved to Washington state from Japan to complete his college education in his early twenties. He didn't speak much English at the time but the isolation due to the language barrier provided an unexpected opportunity. Yamada became an astute observer of couple’s interactions and their expressions, gestures and body language are mined gems in his work. I and Love and You reflects the universality of relationships and their multi-faceted complexities. Yamada earned his Master of Fine Art degree in Ceramic Sculpture in 2010 from the University of Montana and has an undergraduate degree from The Evergreen State College. He is currently a resident at the prestigious Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT. This is Yamada's third solo show at the gallery. For CV, Statement and images, go to his page in Artists.
